Healthy kid's party food by Something Wonderful Happened

I include a fruit jelly in almost every children’s party I style or plan.  It is such a great way to offer a healthy option that children will actually eat in amongst the other, not-so-healthy foods.  Plus jelly is such a versatile dessert to theme by simply changing the vessel or the colour.

Recently my jelly was featured in Little One Magazine as part of this farmyard party I styled.  To celebrate, I am making the labels used for the magazine shoot available for free.  You can download them here.

This is my no-fail, go-to recipe.  If your children are accustomed to lots of sugar in their diet, you can add a teaspoon of icing sugar per 500ml of liquid but I usually leave it out.

Depending on your containers, this should make 10 – 12 serves.

  • 2L sweet fruit juice.  I am using Apple, Mango and Banana here.  You want to use something that is naturally quite sweet if you are not planning on adding sugar.
  • 12 sheets of gelatine
  • 2 teaspoons icing sugar (optional)

  1. Soak gelatine leaves in a bowl of cold water for 5-7 minutes. Squeeze to remove excess water.
  2. Working quickly add gelatine leaves to 100ml water and stir vigorously until leaves have dissolved.
  3. If including icing sugar, add this now.
  4. Add 800ml of fruit juice and stir vigorously ensuring all sugar and gelatine is dissolved.
  5. Pour into containers and refrigerate.

That’s it!

You can find the jars I used at IKEA.  At the time I wrote this post, they were sold as a pack of 4 for $4.

And if you'd like to use the beautiful labels pictured above, leave your email address below and we'll send you the printable PDF file.  These labels were designed by Elise from Sweet Scarlet Designs.  She's a bit of a rock star in the Australian party scene and they are yours for free!  If you'd like to see more of these gorgeous party printables, you can find them in the Sweet Scarlet Designs Etsy store.
