A beautiful hotel, rebuilt during the interwar period was the jumping off point for this party. The Brief: To create a vintage, glamorous party for a stylish girl-about-town.
Initially, Chernyse had wanted a pastel, shabby chic style for her 21st birthday party. However, when she saw this gorgeous venue, she knew she would be holding her celebration here and so we set about finding a way to work her taste into the art deco surrounds.
The solution was to use the red of the venue with a colour palette of neutrals (cream, black, flesh) and a very pale, ballet pink. The space was such a glamorous one, that I knew we needed a party and styling to match! So taking the art deco design as inspiration, I channeled the decadence of 1920s Gatsby as well as the sophistication and elegance of 1930s film stars.
Food and Decoration
Possibly my (second) favourite feature of the dessert table were the champagne coupe towers that flanked the two, tiered buttercream cake. These were made with sparkling Moscato jelly (jell-o) for a dessert-style twist on a classic!
Cupcakes were given the art deco treatment with stunning fondant flowers and beautiful, edible gold painted details.
I wanted the dessert table to make guest feel as though they had wandered into the dressing room of a 1930s starlet. So macarons dusted with the softest gold were arranged like jewels in a jewellery box
And these rock, candy drink stirrers were arranged on velvet just as beautiful jewels would be.
I am envious of anyone who has a birthday during peony season, and so Chernyse and I made the most of her good fortune by using them throughout the room.
